Gary Dugan is the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) for xxx. He is responsible for setting out the investment views, asset allocation and advice for clients

Gary has 35 years experience in the investment world as a portfolio manager, asset class strategist, Chief Investment Officer and trusted advisor. Gary is well-known in the industry for his outspoken but often-timely call on markets. Gary has a track record of calling the markets crashes of 1987 and 2007 and the tech wreck of 2000. But he also saw the upside in markets advising clients to buy equities on March 17th 2009 within two days of the market low.

Gary has a close connection with the Middle East for many years having advised families in the region since 1995. More recently he has served as the CIO at Emirates NBD and NBAD. In 2015 he was awarded GCC Private Banker of the year by Wealth Briefing.

For the core of Gary’s career (1993-2004) he worked at JPMorgan. Initially, he worked as the European equity market strategist advising corporates, institutional and UHNW investors on the outlook for European economies and asset market. Gary became a leading advisor on the theme of corporate restructuring. In 1998 Gary was asked by the European Parliament to present his views on the impact of the Euro on the investment portfolios.

In 1999 Gary took on the role of Global Markets strategist for JPMorgan Institutional Investment Management and the Private Bank. He was responsible in the private banking department for presenting the firm’s macro market views to clients as well as the outlook for sectors and individual stocks. He also served the clients of JPMorgan Asset Management as Global equity market strategist and head of the Equity and Global Balanced investment teams overseeing the management of funds for Sovereign wealth funds Japanese insurance funds and leading institutional accounts in Europe. Gary and his team won an award from S&P in 2003 for the best Global Balanced Group in Europe.

From 2004-2007 Gary served as the CIO of Barclays Wealth Europe Middle East, Asia, and Africa. During his time with Barclays, he was responsible for the management of the investment division and businesses including the multi-manager product, which became the largest in the UK and second largest in Europe.

Between 2007-09 Gary was the CIO for Merrill Lynch Global Wealth Management in EMEA. He provided investment leadership to both the discretionary and advisory businesses. In 2008, he was highlighted by Wealth Briefing as one of the ‘faces to watch’ in the Wealth Industry. In 2009 he came second in an EMEA-wide poll of the wealth industry for investor of the year.

From 2012-14 Gary was the CIO at Coutts international in Singapore. Gary regularly featured in the media, and he remains a leading commentator on the Asian markets.

He has a degree in Economics from Salford University. He is an associate of the UK Society of Investment Professionals, an associate of the CFA Institute.

His views are widely featured on TV and quoted in the financial media for many years. He has spoken at investment conferences throughout Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the US. His academic article on strategic asset allocation was published in 2004. He is currently working on a new initiative around the trends in Global Disruption
